eScuba, Inc. ("eScuba" or "we") is committed to protecting your privacy online. Please read on to understand how your personal information will be treated as you make full use of our many features.

What information do we collect? How do we use it?
When you register as a member of eScuba, we ask for your name, gender, birth date, primary language, location and certain other information. We also ask whether you are a certified scuba diver, and we ask a series of optional questions about your experience or interest in scuba diving. The more information you volunteer (and the more accurate it is), the better we are able to customize your experience and offer services that are valuable to you.

In addition to member registration, we may ask you for personal information at other times, including, but not limited to, the following:

  • when you enter a contest or promotion sponsored by eScuba and/or our partners;
  • when you post your dive buddy profile;
  • when you submit a listing for a Web site;
  • when you submit a photo or article for publication;
  • when you submit a review of a dive destination, dive resort, dive boat, dive operator, or book;
  • when you complete a survey for research purposes; and
  • when you report a problem with one of our sites or services.

If you contact eScuba, we may keep a record of that correspondence.

In order to provide our services free of charge, we may display advertisements. By knowing a little about you, eScuba is able to deliver more relevant advertisements and content, and hence better service, to you.

eScuba may generate statistical profiles using any of the information provided through the Site, including the information provided to us during registration, during a contest or promotion, from our server log files, and from surveys. We do this to better understand and serve our users. These profiles are compiled and analyzed on an aggregated basis.

What about "cookies"?
"Cookies" are small pieces of information that are stored by your browser on your computer's hard drive. Our cookies do not contain any personally identifying information, but they do remind us of who you are and allow us to access your account information (stored on our computers) in order to deliver to you a more efficient and personalized service.

Generally, we use cookies to:

  • enable you to automatically sign in to our services as a member. This cookie is set when you select our automatic sign-in feature during initial registration, or when you select it subsequently in modifying your profile or in signing in to our services.
  • maintain your session while clicking through various areas of eScuba's network of Web sites.
  • estimate our audience size. Each browser accessing eScuba is given a unique cookie which is then used to determine the extent of repeat usage, usage by a member versus by a visitor, and to help target advertisements based on member interests and behavior.
  • track your progress and number of entries in some of our contests and promotions. When an eScuba-hosted promotion uses cookies, the information written to the cookie indicates the participant's progress through the promotion and may be used to track entries, submissions, and status in prize drawings.
  • measure certain traffic patterns, which areas of eScuba's network of Web sites you have visited, and your visiting patterns in the aggregate. We use this information to understand how our users' habits are similar to or different from one another so that we can continue to make improvements to our services and better satisfy your interests. We may also use this information to better personalize the content, banners, and promotions that you and other users see on our sites.

Advertising networks that serve ads onto eScuba may also use their own cookies.

eScuba also collects IP addresses for system administration and to report aggregate information to our advertisers. In addition, eScuba email includes IP addresses in outgoing mail message headers. (An IP address is an identifier for a computer or device on a TCP/IP network.)

Will eScuba disclose the information it collects to outside parties?
eScuba does not sell, trade or rent your personal information to others.

Some of eScuba's services are made possible by or offered in conjunction with other companies. In order to provide these services to you, it is sometimes necessary for us to share your personal information with such companies and, although we do not take responsibility for the actions of other companies, we ask that they implement and abide by privacy policies that are consistent with eScuba's policy.

We may also share aggregate statistics about our users, traffic patterns and other information collected through the Site with advertisers or business partners, but these statistics will include no personally identifying information.

eScuba may release personal information when we believe, in good faith, that such release is reasonably necessary to comply with the law, enforce or apply any of the terms of our Terms of Service Agreement, respond to claims that any content posted on our Web site violates the rights of third parties, or protect the rights, property or safety of eScuba, our users, or others.

Please be aware that eScuba partners, sponsors, advertisers or other Web sites that have links on our site may collect personally identifiable information about you when you access their site. eScuba is not responsible for the collection, use, disclosure and security policies and practices of such Web sites.

What are my choices regarding collection, use and distribution of my information?
You may update or change the information related to your eScuba membership by accessing our Modify Profile page. You will need your eScuba member name and password in order to access your membership information.

eScuba may, from time to time, send you email regarding products, services, offers and information we feel may be of interest to you. If you do not want to receive such promotional email, simply tell us when you register for membership or change your preferences by accessing our Modify Profile page.

When you participate in certain contests and promotions that eScuba may offer, you will automatically receive contest or promotion related email, unless you choose the no-email option that some contests and promotions offer. Email related to contests and promotions may occasionally include targeted advertisements.

You may choose to modify your browser preferences to accept all cookies, to be notified when a cookie is set, or to reject all cookies. If you choose to reject all cookies, you will be unable to use certain eScuba services.

What security precautions are in place to protect the loss, misuse or alteration of my information?
Your eScuba membership profile is password-protected, and only you are authorized to use it to access this personal information. In addition, the use of certain member services, including the eScuba Web-based email service, is also password-protected. We recommend that you do not divulge your password to anyone. Be aware that eScuba will never ask you for your password in an unsolicited phone call or in an unsolicited email.

To ensure that others cannot access your personal information and email, please remember to sign out of your eScuba session and close your browser window at the end of each session.

The personal information that you provide us is stored on servers, which are located in a secured facility with restricted access. In addition, all eScuba personnel who have access to your information are trained in the maintenance and security of such information, and eScuba limits access to such information by its employees to the minimum information reasonably required in order to provide prompt, high quality service.

No data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect your personal information, eScuba cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us or from our online products or services, and you do so at your own risk.

What else should I know about my privacy?
Please bear in mind that whenever you voluntarily disclose personal information online (for example, in bulletin boards, instant messaging, live chats, or email), that information can be collected and used by others. If you post personal information online that is accessible to the public, you may receive unsolicited messages from other parties in return.

Ultimately, you are solely responsible for maintaining the secrecy of your passwords and/or any membership information. Please be careful and responsible whenever you are online.

By accessing our Web site and using any of eScuba's services, you consent to the collection, use and disclosure of information by eScuba as described in this Privacy Policy. While this Privacy Policy is subject to change from time to time, we will post those changes on this page so that you are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances we disclose it.
